“STUDENT COP”

International Student Conference Background

Desertification is a global problem that is intensifying due to climate change, drought, and inappropriate human activities. Most of Mongolia's territory is in arid and semi-arid regions, and desertification has occurred in 64.7 percent of the total territory, and about 76 percent has been degraded to a greater or lesser extent. As a result, soil erosion, water resource depletion, and the frequency of dust storms have increased, which has a negative impact on the region (including countries such as China and the Republic of Korea). An effective way to combat desertification is to increase vegetation cover, plant trees, and reforestation, but this needs to be implemented sustainably and based on public participation. Therefore, there is a need to take practical action against desertification by increasing the knowledge, participation, and leadership of young people.

Brief information about the international student conference “STUDENT COP”

The conference aims to develop young people not only as participants but also as initiators, implementers, and influencers, thereby increasing the participation and leadership of international students in addressing the issues of desertification and land degradation in Mongolia and the region. It also provides an opportunity to implement anti-desertification activities based on practical experience rather than theory.
